Here is a page from my father, Ernest Anders Erickson's scrap book with multiple newspaper clippings dating from 1942 through 1944. They follow him from when he joined the Air Corps in early 1942 to his completion of his 35 missions over German occupied Europe with the 95th Bomb Group in the late Summer of 1944. Lt. Ernest Anders Erickson flew thirty five missions from March 27th thru August 26th, 1944. The crew was assigned to the 334th Squadron - 95th Bomb Group - 8th Army Air Corps - 13th Combat Bombardment Wing - 3rd Bombardment Division out of Horham Airfield – Station 119 – Suffolk County – England. My father truly enjoyed the experince, a dream come true, he was finally flying and even with what had to be countless death defying times he went through. He often mentioned that it was just a beginning of his love of flying and the aeronautic business he would spend the next 50 years of his life closely involved with. On May 24th and May 28th, 1944 (Mission notes attached below) the crew of the "Lili of the Lamplight" (44-6085) would complete their 15th and 16th missions. The May 24th mission was over Berlin and their 2nd mission over the capital of Germany. 616 B-17s were dispatched to Berlin and 464 hit the primary target, 34 bomb Nauen, 13 bomb Rechlin and 6 bomb targets of opportunity. 33 B-17s are lost, 1 is damaged beyond repair and 256 are damaged. 4 airmen are Killed in Action, 24 are Wounded in Action and 482 are Missing in Action. The May 28th mission was over Poland where 255 B-17s were dispatched to an oil storage yard at Konigsburg / Magdeburg and an oil manufacturing facility at Magdeburg / Rothensee, 17 hit Dessau and 6 bomb the marshaling yard at Gera. 9 B-17s are lost and 64 damaged. 3 airmen are Killed in Action, 2 Wounded in Action and 90 are Missing in Action.
