I recall this brown leather sheaf from childhood, but can not recall it's original use. I feel it was from ww1 and part of my grandfather's gear. The name Erickson is very nicely hand tooled into the leather by either my grandfather or father.

I know both my grandfather Frank Erickson who was with the 308th Infantry and a fortunate survivor of the Lost Battalion (October 1918) and my father Lt. Ernest Anders Erickson who flew B-17s in the Air Corps with the 95th Bomb Group (Heavy) out of Horham Airfield in England used the sheath.

I found the sheath right after my dad passed in 2014 and it brought up a lot of memories. It has a clip on the back that can attach the sheaf to a belt or jacket. It measures 2.5" wide and 13" long (6cm x 33cm). Ernest used it to protect his Lawrence Slide Rule when he was studying aeronautics and jet design at the University of Colorado in Boulder in the late 1940s.

The other usages may stay a mystery, but one thing I can say, it's a beauty of a keep-sake.
