It was a very fortunate morning in New York City finding the exact location where this photograph of my mother, Bernice Lane (Erickson) Hesslein was photographed in Manhattan in the early 1940s.

We came upon the corner of 5th Avenue and 51st Street, just a stones throw from Rockefeller Plaza and it became quite obvious this was the location. Not all that much has changed as one might think in the area in the many passing decades since the original photo was snapped.

The photograph of Elena Erickson was taken on Cinco de Mayo - May 5th, 2017. I will include the street scene of the spot where both photographs were derived.

I can easily say a fun time was had that rainy morning in Manhattan. We headed after this to a very crowded experience at the Museum of Modern Art. Should have figured a lot of folk would be there on a rainy day in the city.
