My uncle Ernest Julius Erickson with his buggy and two horses posing for a photograph on the rolling grassy hills of North Dakota. This image was from a postcard written to my grandfather Frank Gustaf Severin Erickson who at the time was living in Miles City, Montana. The photograph taken with a Kodak Number 3A Folding Pocket Camera. The camera was designed for the use of postcard-size film, which allowed photographers to take photographs and have them printed on postcard backs, usually in the dimensions of 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" like the one you see here. The back of the photo-postcard (which was mailed in Wilton, North Dakota) has a one cent green Benjamin Franklin stamp affixed.
Ernest Julius writes: Dear Brother Frank Received your card some time ago from Montana and will now send you one of the pictures I promised you. This is my rig with one of my new horses on the prairie near the river. Pa got a letter from you today. That will be all for this time hoping to hear from you soon. Ernest Julius |
