Three postcards from 1917 and 1918 that I am amazed still exist. Very pleased to have come across them. Attaching both the front and back for viewing. The first card my grandfather Frank Gustaf Severin Erickson had sent to his folks in Dakota notifying them that he had arrived safely by ship and was on English soil. It was mailed in August of 1918 when he was with the American Expeditionary Force and eventually serving with the 308th Infantry in France. Frank would go on to participate along with the 308th and his Company C in the Meuse Argonne Offensive that began in late September of 1918 and culminate for Frank in his narrow escape on October 8th. He was a very fortunate surviving member of the famed, "The Lost Battalion." The Second card is Frank's forwarding mail card to his family back home when he was soon off by ship leaving from the Brooklyn (NY) Harbor for England and then France. The Third card is Frank's original induction notification that he received in early 1918 while he was living in La Grande, Oregon working as a deputy for the railroad. It states he had passed his physical examination and was sooner-than-later to be inducted into the Army during the war in Europe. |
