On a Market Day in 1914 you will find my great grandmother Christine Brita (Olson) Erickson enjoying the day in Wilton, North Dakota. She is dressed in an all white dress and wearing a white hat with a large white feather sticking out in the back. Her son, Alphons "Al" Erickson stands in front of her wearing a cap. The two are standing up front of the left striped tent with the three little dogs at attention, maybe preparing to perform. I am not even sure they are real, yet Christine appears mesmerized by the little pooches. What exactly is going on I wish I knew. At the turn of the 20th Century a very popular style of photography was the photograph - postcard. The 2nd image here of the back of the card was written in Swedish by Christine to her son Frank Severin Erickson. Frank at the time was working and living in Phoenix, Arizona. The translation and the transcription will be posted here eventually. |
