My folks, Bernice Lane (Hesslein) and Ernest Anders Erickson's first home in Hollywood, California was on Beachwood Drive (house on the left). A nice photo of my parents below around the time they moved to Beachwood Drive. It was the first home I lived when I was growing up in Hollywood. We moved a few years later up to the Hollywood Hills on Camrose Drive where we lived into my late teenager years.

A photograph I took of my parents at the Parthenon, a temple on the Athenian Acropolis in Athens, Greece in the mid later 1970s is a classic. My folks and I were fortunate to visit many incredible sites while we lived in Europe.

The locations that stand out were: Pompeii, the ancient Roman city near Naples which was engulfed in volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Pompeii is in the the Campania region of Italy.

Stonehenge which was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of multiple massive sized standing stones, weighing around 25 tons each. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of a dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, including several hundred burial mounds.

Troy is a city in the far northwest of the region known in late Classical antiquity as Asia Minor, now known as Anatolia in Turkey. It is just south of the southwest mouth of the Dardanelles strait and northwest of Mount Ida. Troy was the setting of the Trojan War described in the Greek Epic Cycle, in particular in the Iliad, one of the two epic poems attributed to Homer.

We were living in Torino (Turin) Italy and becuse my dad was for a time stationed in Italy during the war, we vistied about every imaginable area of the country. Memorable cities like Florence, Venice, Salerno, Milano etc we visited often. Rome where the beautiful Roman ruins can be seen: the Colosseum, The Roman Forum, the Imperial Forums, the remains of the emperor Caracalla’s bathhouse, the Theater of Marcellus which is an ancient open-air theater.

As if Elaine DeKooning pointed us to the incredible Lascaux Caves near the village of Montignac in the region of Dordogne in southwestern France. This place is special.

The Parthenon in the background of the photograph was built starting in 447 BC. Most of these places are now unfortunately off limits to most folk. To protect these important beautiful sites, the mass of today's tourist's can only view these from afar. Probably a good thing.

The last photograph below of my folks was taken by my mom's cousin, Felix Juda in Venice in the 1990s. Felix is married to Ruth (Ripin) Juda of Cedarhurst, New York. Ruth and my mom, Bernice were first cousins. My mom's mother Blanche Rose (Nathan) Hesslein and Ruth's mother Sadie (Nathan) Ripin were sisters.
