On the road with Tom and his son Jackson Bonn Weber. Tom's great grandparents are Winnie (Nathan) and Maurice Rippe. Winnie is my grandmother Blanche Rose (Nathan) Hessleins's older sister. The Nathan sisters along with other sister, Sadie (Nathan) Ripin and brother Edwin Nathan, grew up in New York City. A beautiful photograph below of the Nathan Family taken at the family home in Far Rockaway, Queens near the Atlantic Ocean in the late Summer of 1939. Names of who is who, in the photograph, check link below. Nathan Family Photograph Tom and Jackson are on a year plus long across the country and Canada road trip. They are visiting family and friends along the way. I was pleased and fortunate that they visited me down along the shore. We enjoyed some time together, walked along the paths of the canals, then down to Venice Beach and traversed the shoreline from one end to the pier. We checked out the Boardwalk, where wild mayhem can often occur. By dark we ended up at a local Mexican restaurant for some dinner. Tom is, as I referred to it as, "Road Schooling' Jackson along the way of their journey. Jackson is a bright, very inquisitive (I like that) and attentive cool 11 year old. He'll do fine on the road that leads to all sorts of incredible experiences. Jackson and Tom live in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and will be sliding down the way apiece for awhile, enjoying the sights. While the road blurs by in currents of lit energy, their large dark van splitting the blacktop, as they seek new vistas and interesting opportunities. Wishing them straight roads and high adventures as they cruise the scenic highways. |
