My mom, Bernice Lane (Erickson) Hesslein when she was 4 months old in a photograph studio portrait taken in Philipsburg, New Jersey. My grandparents Blanche Rose (Nathan) and Maximillian 'Max' Hesslein lived in Brooklyn, New York and that is where my mom was raised and lived till she moved into Manhattan in her 20s. A second photograph taken by Life Magazine German-born American photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt of my mom, Bernice and grandmother Blanche.
