My grandmother Clara Amelia (Nelson) Erickson standing outside her home at 801 Jefferson Avenue in Bismarck on a snowy Winter day of 1967. Alongside is her husband Frank's 1958 Chevrolet Yoeman Station Wagon. Below are four other photographs of 801 Jefferson over the years. On the left side of one in front of the garage is my grandfather Frank's 1934 Austin Model A. The Austin Company was an American automobile manufacturing corporation and was founded in 1929. It produced motorcars licensed from the British Austin Motor Company from 1930 through 1934, when it filed for bankruptcy. Two views below of the Jefferson house from 1936 and 1959 shows the growth of the trees that Frank planted in the mid 1930s. One of my favorite photographs of my grandmother is the one of her sitting on the front stairs of her just completed home on Jefferson with the family dog at her side. Even though at the time a barren landscape surrounds the home, over time, trees and grass would unfold and their home became a charming place for the family to live and visit.
Frank and his brother Andy (Anders) Sebran, with help from my father Ernest Anders built the home
between 1934 and 1935. It still stands today as can be seen with one of Frank's birdhouses in
the tree. |
