My uncle Ernest Julius Erickson in La Grande, Oregon when he was a deputy on the Oregon Railroad in 1917. Later in the Fall Ernest Julius would be called up for training at Camp Lewis with the American Expeditionary Force (AEF). Ernest Julius and my grandfather Frank Severin Erickson went on a deer hunting trip to Mount Baldy, Oregon starting on September 18th, 1917. They stayed up in the mountains, living in a tent and cooking on open fires and enjoying life for nine days in the wilderness of Oregon. Ernest Julius wrote daily diary entries of their days and nights along the trails of Oregon.
