Air Cadet Ernest Anders Erickson, finishing up at Primary Flight Training, was photographed in April 1943 at Curtis Airfield in Brady, Tx. The second image below is the letter, dated March 16, 1942, that Ernest Anders received notifying him of his acceptance as an Aviation Cadet in the Army Air Corps. He reported for his first phase of flight training (Orientation/Classification) at Kelly Field at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center on October 20, 1942. One year later, on October 1, 1943, Lt. Ernest Anders Erickson graduated from Advanced Flight Training at Blackland Airfield in Waco, Tx. By February 1944, Lt. Erickson was piloting B-17 Flying Fortresses with the 95th Bomb Group at Horham Airfield in East Anglia, England. On August 26, 1944, he completed his 35th mission over Nazi occupied Europe. In September 1944, Lt. Ernest Anders Erickson put in a transfer for another tour of combat flying, this time to fly the B-29 Superfortress. This would inevitably mean he would be flying missions in the Pacific Theater against the Japanese. He loved flying. |
