My grandfather Frank Gustaf Severin (Erssson-Eriksson) Erickson (2nd from the right - wearing derby) waiting at the train station in Bismarck, North Dakota for a ride out west in January of 1911.

At the time a very popular style of photography was the photograph - postcard. This card was written by my uncle Helmer Erick Olaf Erickson to his brother Frank who was working and living at the time in Spokane, Washington.

The back of the postcard written by Helmer who also took the photograph is attached below. The transcription goes like this:

Mr. Frank Erickson
Sillman Hotel
Spokane Washington
Mailed from Wilton, North Dakota on March 4th, 1911

Dear Brother,
Received your postal some time ago.
Well this is the picture I took of you.
It isn’t very good because you know the camera was out of order.
Say hello to Sumnter for me ask him if he got my letter and pictures.
And if he did why not a response.

Your Brother Helmer

Thanks to Mark Henninger of Bismarck, North Dakota for the transcription.
