I have been experimenting with Polaroids since I was a kid in Hollywood, and first began using my folk’s Polaroid cameras, they had around the house. My first SX-70 arrived when I was studying painting at the San Francisco Art Institute and this was the kick start of some interesting experimentation. Acquired at North Beach Camera on Columbus Avenue in San Francisco seemed the right place to get started. Taking standard snapshots with a SX-70 did not interest me. I enjoyed film manipulations and tried everything to get unusual effects. One favorite series of Polaroids I continue to shoot to this day, are of the Lone Star Cement building in West Oakland, it can be seen in various stages below. I have worked with the original Polaroid film for years, but that is no longer available and the new Impossible Project film that is coming out of Europe is what I use now. |
