Attas (Ghattas) Fares Boutrous (Abu Dakken) called the boys his 'steps' as they went from tallest to shortest in a complete natural order. Soon after this photo was taken, three of the boys went off to serve in the war in Europe and never saw their father Attas again, as he passed away in Bismarck in February of 1944.
In the 2nd photograph below, are the five Boutrous Brothers in 1946
standing out front of the Boutrous Family 'Corner Grocery' in Bismarck.
The Boutrous elders were Della (Nassif) and Attas (Ghattas) Fares Boutrous Abu Dakken. The surname of Abu Dakken was dropped by Attas in the early 1900s after he immigrated to the states. Attas was born in Ain Arab, Lebanon, Syria on February 12th, 1882. Della Nassif Boutrous was also born in Ain Arab on February 17th, 1892.
Della and Attas were married on September 19th, 1910 in Sioux City, Iowa. Attas first opened 'The Fair Store' in 1917. Later the family opened the Boutrous Family 'Corner Grocery' on January 1st, 1929. He ran the 'Corner Grocery' until he passed in Bismarck on January 12th, 1944. Della passed on June 30th, 1985 also in Bismarck.
Della and Attas had eight children, three daughters and five sons.
